Pros
Generous discount on all merchandise (even though you do need a Macy's card to get it; you do have the option of taking an employee pre-paid card instead of opening a line of credit if you're not qualified or uninterested in doing that). Most other associates were easy to work with and fun to get to know and talk to. Even though I have not worked at Macy's for a couple years, I have made lifelong friends because of my job there. Management was for the most part willing to work with you. As a beauty adviser I received gratis of makeup and perfume which I absolutely loved, plus there was commission too! Decent contests and rewards for opening up Macy's credit cards, which really wasn't that difficult to do if you knew how to ask. Their POS system remains one of the best I have ever used. Training was thorough and easy to follow.
Cons
Sometimes it was difficult to find shifts to pick up. It was difficult to run a makeup counter and meet quotas set forth by my brand's account coordinator when I was only scheduled three hours at night a few times a week. The "points" system was kind of a joke for those of us that take public transportation. If you're ten minutes late because of your bus, you lose points even though it's something out of your control. I saw a lot of dedicated employees lose their jobs because of this system due to family illnesses and situations they couldn't otherwise control. Good luck if you get sick, too, as a part time employee - their medical benefits are awful.
