Pros

Flexible Scheduling - If you were scheduled a shift that you can't work, you can advertise your shift but you have to do it right away so other associates who want to pick-up hours can take that shift and you'll be clear of that shift and you can keep your points. You're also able to pick up shifts if you want/need more hours. You're paid weekly which is a MAJOR plus. You encounter a wide range of personalities, you're bound to make a friend or two along the way.

Cons

PAY: Macy's boasts competitive wages. Who is their competitor, Panhandlers? Macy's pays about $20,000 less than MOST other companies. As a commission based sales associate you earn what is called a draw. Basically, you have to sell about $200.00 worth of product an hour in order to earn your 8% commission which at most, equal's out to another dollar per hour. However, this goal is unreasonable when there are 8 people on the selling floor and no customers. You get a 20% "back door" discount, meaning you receive your discount on the back of the house AFTER you've made your purchase. It is then loaded back onto your card where you can ONLY spend said discount at Macy's. You do back breaking work for little pay. Up and down stairs, lifting and puling heavy boxes. On your feet ALL DAY. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Managers have no respect for any of their employees (granted this is probably due to the lack of respect they receive from their over lord bosses, but nonetheless; unnecessary) they have you come in on your off days around the holidays. You can't use PTO during the whole month of December and most of November. Managers will manipulate and lie in the face of an employee just to get them to do what they want them to do. They also use questionable tactics in order to bait employees (basically, if they were cops; you'd be able to claim entrapment and win) Upper management and HR are a bunch of tyrants and refuse to listen to any of the lower level employees. Overall Macy's is cesspool for sexism and racism. If you're not "one of the boys" or your manager is African American and you're not OR vice a versa you're SOL. Their Gestapo loss prevention or (LP) is a joke. They worry more about employee theft (which is less likely) than actual large scale shop lifters. LP is mostly young kids and most, if not all, are of minority descent. Why is this a problem you ask? Because LP poses as undercover shoppers; some pretending to be thieves. Apparently, only African Americans and Hispanic people steal. (Side eye) Food Service Staff is almost ALL African American. Macy's allows them to make your meals but doesn't allow them to sell your fine jewelry. Thanks for setting civil rights back about 50 years.

Pros

I only worked there for about 2 days before quitting, the first day was training and it was pretty easy, learning how to use the cashier and folding clothes...etc.

Cons

On the 2nd day, the person who hired me and who was training me forgot me in the stockroom. after two hours of organizing the stockroom and wondering when I was going to be off, I went outside looking for the supervisor and it had turned out that he had left. I just quit the next day.

Pros

Not a lot of work because the department has so many unnecessary positions that are responsible for what only one position would be responsible for at another company.

Cons

Still stuck in the "old school" LP mentality of "cops & robbers" with constant pressure to get shoplifters and internals, disregarding any financial ROI. Use questionable tactics in order to bait employees. Tolerate racial discrimination and engage in retaliatory behavior.
