Pros
The only "pro" about this job is the employee discount, but it isn't even that great. Employees get 20% off purchases, and sometimes an additional 20% on top of that during special events.
Cons
All that the managers seem to care about are sales goals and whether or not you open up credit card accounts for customers. Credits are their top priority- not the actual employees. The unreasonable sales goals tend to create a hostile, competitive environment in which co-workers fight over sales and steal customers from each other. Sales associates are expected to open up several credit accounts during each shift, regardless of the dismal state of the economy. Also, in order to use your employee discount you have to get either a Macy's credit card or a Pre-Paid card. I opted for the pre-pay card because I don't want to get myself into further debt with a credit card, but the pre-pay card is very confusing to use and no one in management bothers to explain how to use it. In addition, I've noticed that one of the goals of Macy's is to get their employees to spend their paychecks at their store. For example, in our morning rally yesterday the managers made the different departments do a "fashion show" for all the associates to show off all of the "great deals" that we should be buying. It's ridiculous and desperate.
