Pros

It's a stable job, at least where I work. I'm not on the selling floor, I think the sales associates probably get treated worse. The benefits are average, same as most places. They do have a 20% store discount for employees, but you have to use your Macy's employee credit card to get the discount and pay off the balance before it is due to avoid getting charged high interest rates.

Cons

The hours are typical retail...expect to work on weekends and all major holidays. They only give you off on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. The other Federal holidays they give to you as "floating holidays", which is really just a personal day that you can request to take off. The salary I am making is not that good, and their pay raises are below average. A lot of employees and management seem to be unhappy a great deal as well. Opportunities for advancement are far and few between. Macy's is also notorious for its penny-pinching, they are generally a cheap company to work for. Expect very little in rewards and recognition for this company and you will not be disappointed!

Pros

Good benefits if you can get them.

Cons

No respect from management or customers. All push for getting charges and sales but no consideration for the fact there are too few associates working, too much area to cover by ones self, really bad pay raises (worked for Kaufmann's/Macy's for almost 9 years and do not even make $9 per hour), they've cut vacation time, they've pitted one associate against another for sales and accounts. Used to be fun but not any longer.

Pros

I suppose a hybrid arrangement, with a very slight employee discount of 20% and a summer Friday.

Cons

1. Lack of vision and innovation 2. They chose to hire a Senior Designer who had mostly men's design experience with minimal Women's experience to be above me. Additionally, the Designer lacked corporate experience, so I had to mentor my Senior Designer. There were no skill sets that this "Senior Designer" could teach me that I didn't already know. 3. NEVER in my life have I experienced teaching upwards; it has always been my director or manager teaching me skillsets. 4. The lack of accountability of those in senior/director-level positions has been astounding. 5. Of the 6+ private brands I had worked with, only 2 (of 8 people) cross-functional team members understood that I was the only designer in the span of 3-4 months at the company and helped me acclimate.
