Pros

Pays a little in between regular jobs. Heated and air conditioned facility. Reasonably clean work. Supervisors are nice. Hired right away after applying and interviewing.

Cons

We had online training classes for 6 hours including anti-union propaganda, then were put on the sales floor during a big weekend sale Saturday. The senior cashier did not have time to teach us much. Next shift wasn't scheduled until Black Friday, nearly a month later; we will not be prepared well. During my interview, I requested to work seasonally, late morning and later. I am scheduled to work late, then come in 7 or 8 a.m. the next day. I have 6 a.m. start times, too. This was not at all what I had hoped for and requested. No one wants to work late, then come in early the next day! It really messes up one's sleep cycles. It's odd that managers haven't figured that out, yet. 6 a.m. , 7 a.m., nor 8 a.m. are not late morning, folks! Plus, I was told I would make commission even when in a different section than my usual. Not true. Retail is hard work physically and mentally. Macy's schedulers make it harder, yet, with unnecessarily inhumane schedules.

Pros

Good deals and discounts, ability to swap and pick up shifts, easy call out, great first job, co workers were friendly

Cons

I applied for a specific position in a specific department. I went in for the job interview and was hired for a DIFFERENT position. Even after stating that I would prefer and be more comfortable in the 1st position I was told "oh its okay, we'll cross train you so you can still so both. You'll just mostly be in the other one because that's what I'm hiring you for" Then i was e mailed, by the same person, to come in for a job training. The initial dates for that training were on the 11th and 12th, I responded a few hours later saying I'll be able to make it. I was e mailed back DAYS later with "I'm scheduling you for the 14 and 15. Thanks" without even considering or asking whether or not I'll be able to make it. When I got my schedule, it was all empty so I decided to pick up shifts and left one week open on purpose since I was going away for a family member's death anniversary. I mentioned prior to actually staring the job that I would not be able to make it during that week. Manager comes up to me one day and she's upset that I didn't mention it to HER when she interviewed me (which yeah that was a fault on my part), and because of that she wasn't going to approve it. Like...approve what? You gave me a schedule for the next month and didn't assign me any shifts ahead of time. There's nothing to approve. They're not as flexible with schedules as they say they are Also they don't pay you enough
