Fired for Xmas

Pros

None. I have nothing positive to say about Macy's. Nothing.

Cons

Macys is about the numbers. They fired me for excessive absences. My mother had dementia and passed away in June. Macy's doesn't care and fired me based upon the number of absences. I was working on call and my schedule was somewhat flexible. Then I was switched to part time and the management began scheduling my work time on line and without my knowledge. The online scheduling system MySchedulePlus is down most of the time. That system simply cannot handle high user volume. I wasn't working there every day, so it was difficult to figure how what days and times management would schedule me to work. I had to call out a lot because my mother had dementia and I needed to visit her in the hospital. I called Macy's HR and explained the call out was due to my mother's illness. Coincidentally, the day that my mother died was the final absence that Macy's used against me to fire me. Macy's made it clear to me that on the day my mother died, Macy's doesn't care about it, only about their bottom line.

Cut, Cut, Cut

Pros

Innovators in the market. Always ahead of the trend. Socially conscious.

Cons

Lured in with promise of advancement. Very difficult to move up, especially if you aren't buddies with the DVP. Long hours with dwindling staffing resources adding to an already full workload. They talk work-life balance but rarely allow it to happen.

Just Don't

Pros

Discount, scheduling is neat because it lets you pick up open shift and drop shifts you don't want. You meet some cool people, but there's just as many people you'd rather not...

Cons

The way this place works is they take the stores sales goal, and divide it by people on the floor. which becomes your sales goal. which if you're working in DKNY or Eileen Fisher or the brand areas is great! you're going to shine Every Single day! BUT if you end up in the department i was in. (old lady clothes/ clearence) You are never ever ever going to make your goal. people are getting shirts for $3 and then using 10 off 50 coupons, and the go backs are mountains in the clearance. they require you to make so many credit card applications a week... again clearance and old ladys... never going to get any... and then on top of the curse of the department my co workers were sneaky... You only get credit for sales if you're logged into the register so we all had our codes written down so when we ask if someone helped them they can punch it in... This never happened, I'd be on the floor doing all the work and the other lady would sit at the register and take all the sales! and if i was on the register she was "helping" all the customers because she said hi apparently. and... just DON'T!
