Pros

Free, unhealthy, low quality food if that’s considered a “pro.” Relationships built with the student population.

Cons

Would never recommend working here to anyone—this place deserves zero stars, but that’s not an option on Glassdoor. As stated in some other reviews, it is a very non-inclusive environment. You will only be rewarded if you enjoy being micromanaged and doing well at your job is taken for granted and any recognition for doing well is non-existent. A place where innovative ideas are discouraged and conformity to outdated practices is demanded. They lure applicants in by falsely advertising the job descriptions and titles for all “coach” roles. If you’re an “academic coach,” you’re just a tutor with a fancy title. If you’re a “life skills coach” you’re a caregiver/nanny with a fancy title. If you’re a “connections coach,” you’re an offsite caregiver/nanny with a fancy title. They do not empower students to make their own decisions, and will often encourage coaches to demand student participation in events, even in cases where some students have extreme anxiety related to social events. There were many evenings where I was the last staff member on site and witnessed many students have emotional breakdowns due to situations provoked by higher leadership (program directors), and I felt as though my training was inadequate/absent for de-escalating extreme situations with no other staff present. Another review on this website suggested that this role “could be more challenging for those who have difficulty taking initiative or who value a slower paced environment,” which is not true in any regard. Taking initiative and being innovative in this role is frowned upon from higher ups as they only subscribe to their own delusional, unprofessional, and outdated practices. This review also suggests that Mansfield Hall is a fast-paced environment, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Students are often very bored with the mundane activities that are approved by directors and coaches are the ones leading these mundane activities. Unless you consider cooking, cleaning or watching movies with students “fast-paced,” then this job will be very mundane and repetitive if anything. You don’t even need to have much “initiative” for these tasks. Please, if you are considering applying here, think again. There are other places that will treat you SO much better and value your input, ideas and creativity.

Pros

Fellow staff, students and general environment. Mansfield Hall has always focused on inclusivity and developing appropriate procedures, policies and cultures to support this. Mansfield Hall is a great place to be if you have a desire to learn and to contribute to the lives of others. There's always opportunities for professional development and various trainings which is fantastic to have access to. Additionally, being able to be a positive contributor to a students college journey is really fulfilling.

Cons

Mansfield Hall could be more challenging for those who have difficulty taking initiative or who value a slower paced environment. People who are less flexible might also find the work flow a challenge - working with students with various learning differences is by no means linear.
