Pros

Mattel has great brands and some useful benefits, like half-day Fridays and child care on-site. The experience honestly varies between departments and managers. There are some really great people, and most everyone is passionate about the brands.

Cons

There is a very strict hierarchy and therefore you can feel like you aren't making a contribution or that you are not valued, especially when there are so many "higher up" opinions that you have to deal with. You definitely have to "manage up" and "manage down"... I also feel like the promotions are based more on personal preference than merit or performance, which can either be a good or a bad thing.

Pros

Great benefits package: half day Fridays throughout the year, 13 holidays plus week between Christmas and New Years off, 401K contribution even if you don't, 4% 401K match contribution if you contribute 6%, restricted stock and stock options for directors and above, access to a host of online education courses. Financially stable and generally invest in the betterment/education of the workforce both at the staff and management level.

Cons

Depending upon your position can require a significant amount of travel. Do more with less resources but expect the same output as before...leads to long hours. Not flexible enough on telecommuting. Too many exceptions to the rule depending upon which department you work in. Inconsistency of senior leadership across the board. Management committee can be indecisive on making strategic business decisions.
