Pros

From a benefits perspective we receive generous time off (company shutdown for the December holiday break) and half day Fridays. Also you can't beat working on toys for a living!

Cons

Management's words dictate one direction but their actions show another. The culture is also changing on the East Aurora campus from one of mutual support to one where individuals will be petty in order to be noticed and therefore promoted.

Pros

Good benefits, half day Fridays, nice location.

Cons

Mattel is a pretty good short term JOB, but NOT the place for a long term CAREER anymore. Layoffs occur often and nobody is safe even if you are a top performer, leaving employees in a constant state of stress, In my humble opinion's these are some of the issues - Mattel keeps cutting people, but not cutting workload-those left just have to take up the slack - this is not sustainable. Many of the positions are being outsourced overseas, replacing key positions with cheaper, less experienced people who do not have the skills necessary to get the job done correctly. The company is very top heavy right now, as a result of many of the domestic WORKERS getting let go, but more EXECUTIVES (VP and above) are being brought on. Creativity is down, while workload, expectations, and stress are up. making many employees FRUSTRATED and feeling like they are very NOT APPRECIATED. Sadly, the quality and innovation of the products are no longer the focus, the only concerned seems to be the profits.

Pros

Known brand, very involved in the community. Fun products, creative people. Good benefits, lots of holidays.

Cons

Ruthless, highly political culture, but great at marketing themselves as otherwise. They allow lots of bad behavior -- most of leadership perpetuates the toxic culture. Very top-heavy. People are given promotions and high-level titles as rewards for technical accomplishments and fire-fighting, not because they are exceptional managers/leaders capable of developing their people and creating great teams. Last century HR processes and systems. Some people sit back and rest on their laurels while others work so hard and so much that they don't have time to have good work/life balance. If you are accomplished at corporate politics and can check your conscience at the doorway, you'll do well here.
