Pros

The view Of Lake Superior

Cons

Antiquated management style.... lack of business acumen and comprehension of global fashion landscape . Felt like surrounded by giggly high school sorority girls. Merchandisers are actually buyers .... I came from background where my merchandisers from my previous job was 33 minority who had a masters in economics from Wharton ... My former employee only hired the best , trained them and retained them.- the business meetings were innovative. Maurices tracks you down , burn you out and spits you out. Next!!! HR is complicit has extensive documentation of employment discontent . It was such a shock to be here in there Duluth headquarters with such an antiquated management. Beware if they contact you to relocate to Duluth.. The moving cost will be added to your income, your taxes will be misshandled,. After Maurices has burnt you out ... you will be stuck in this quaint post industrial town that at best offer minimum paying jobs.

Pros

Company has great ideas just need to make sure they are being implemented. They supports their employees work life balance.

Cons

It all really comes down to your specific managers, ASLs, and MSLs, and depends on their "interpretations" of company expectations. The move from DMs and Rms to ASLs and MSLs was supposed to provide more support within each individual store.. since this began over a year ago, I have YET to see this happen! Store managers can get away with "murder" unless you can prove that they have done things wrong.. because the ASLs are not around often enough to see the TERRIBLE behaviors.

Pros

Great incentives, benefits, product, training. The company has a friendly atmosphere. Home office is just a phone call away.

Cons

The company has changed drastically. We are now micromanaged as to how we are supposed to spend every minute of the day. This is a rigid environment and you are not allowed a lot of input or to be creative. If you step outside of the box, you are held accountable. The upper management believes in favoritism and holding each store manager to a different expectation. While it is okay for one store manager to do one thing, it is not okay for another store manager. The area leader tries to put the staff against the store manager and encourages a lot of side talk. She does not encourage face to face resolution which creates a toxic, hostile environment. It may be different for other area leaders, but I have encountered a terrible one. Don't be afraid to stick up for yourself and fight for what is right. I tried to do this, but I was forced out. It's a shame, because I love this company.
