Bound to fail

Pros

Good hours, fancy office. Free health benefits for full time permanent employees.

Cons

Poor mid level leadership, clearly chosen based on connections as opposed to experience. My supervisor did not even understand the job the people who worked under performed, and was a ‘remote’ manager. Similar to other startups that grow and fail, they’re focusing too much on pretending to be elite instead of actually having a good product and service.

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. It concerns me to hear you feel you had a disconnect with your direct manager. I would welcome a chance to discuss and understand your experience at Maxwell. Kathy

Balancing Act

Pros

Overall I had a great experience at Maxwell, it's a culture embedded by young ambitious millennials. Your team and the people around you will be highly motivated to achieve goals. * Great place to accelerate career * Decent 401k match for a startup * Bonus incentive at the end of year (payout happens at end of Q1) * Open to using new solutions if it fits business goals * Flexible PTO * Communication driven organization

Cons

I worked in engineering, and you will burn yourself out if you struggle with time management. There are several unrealistic goals and deadlines placed on engineering, this has however improved. Many people commit themselves to 50-80 hr work weeks and management kindly turns a blind eye on this. Not providing enough supervision creates a culture of promoting burnout. Implementation Consultants and Services members seem to face the brunt of the immense workload. Investing in small in-house automation tooling would ease workload. Tough to get a break unless you have a team that promotes a healthy work life balance. Although there is a communal sense to go on more breaks. Ideally there would be a push from management or HR to go on more breaks.

Pros

I have grown a lot at Maxwell, and I like a place that helps me grow a lot. People are supportive of each other, and there is a lot of learning and internal promotions in my department. The product is getting better and better. I see huge improvements in the past year. There has been some cutting-edge stuff going on in there as the team gets passed some earlier problems. Management is transparent in what they are doing, and the monthly meetings with so many numbers given do help us all understand what is going on.

Cons

I came on this site because I heard that of some bad reviews on here. I am honestly surprised to see a number of these, and I see it as a con. Am I missing something? I do not see so much negativity in the people I talk with. I give the company five stars based on my experience, but there are some unhappy people at Maxwell, or who were laid off earlier this year. The layoffs were a painful time at the company, and Q4 can be tough on some groups in Maxwell given the seasonality of the business. I hope as the numbers keep looking better, and Q1 rolls around, things feel better for some of these people. Or that they find positions that they like better, because there are plenty of us here who enjoy Maxwell!
