Pros

You will get experience like no other. If you are interested in special education or autism, this is the place to start your career. There is a good team atmosphere. The rewards of building bonds with the students and seeing progress is a feeling like no other.

Cons

There is a high level of physical management of the students. Yes, people get hurt. Yes, there is a high turnover of staff because people don't know what they're getting themselves into. Yes, there is a lot of paperwork. Yes, you can feel like nobody is supporting you because administrators are spread thin.

Pros

My supervisor was great, spent a lot of time and effort supporting me and my ideas. There are a lot of talented clinical staff working with the students.

Cons

Difficult to implement ideas because of red tape. Very loud environment, rapid turn over of staff, kids don't come to class because of behaviors so you end up getting put into ratio in classrooms too much. Very distracting, and was asked to do a lot of things that were not on my list of expected responsibilities.
