Just like any hospital

Pros

Competitive pay, shift differentials, occasional bonuses for OT.

Cons

The hiring/orientation process is a major headache and does not well prepare you for your duties. Once you learn your way, it's just like any other hospital. Nursing ratios are average, 6:1 on medsurg. Often don't have techs or secretaries causing dangerous conditions.

Pros

-Large company so much opportunity within -Pay seems to be fair -I work three 12hr shifts so scheduling is very flexible -HR seems responsive

Cons

-While a large company can be a pro, it can also lead you to feeling like you personally don't really matter and can get lost in the shuffle -Some co-workers are very lazy -Boss is too busy so face to face time with her is limited

Out with the old

Pros

Great benefits and potential for paid time off. Many locations - convenient to work near your home. Large network of providers.

Cons

Management plays favorites. Gets rid of long term, dependable employees to hire new inexperienced people at much lower wages - to save MedStar money. This is also not the best for providing quality patient care. You have no rights because you are an 'at will' employee. No one listens if you have a genuine concern or complaint. If you do stand up for yourself, you'll have a target on your back. Discriminatory practices - discipline is not applied to all employees equally. They break policies to keep the under performers but go out of their way to terminate good reliable employees. Avoid this employer!
