Pros

Benefits and uniform allowance are perks

Cons

New employee training and orientation needs much improvement. I have been evaluated 4 times in the 6 months I've worked here. I am expected to report to 2 supervisors. One of my supervisors doesn't speak to me unless I speak to her first. I have had maybe 2 conversations with her my entire employment. I do not feel I have been properly trained for my position. The only reason I have stayed is because of the phenomenal co workers who have stepped up to the plate to attempt to train me on their own. It is a supervisor's job to make sure their staff is properly trained. I have experienced 2 seperate instances where a pet was handled roughly by a doctor/staff and someone was seriously bitten. Not only is this bad for the person who was bit it creates lasting trauma to that pet. Both were cases where we knew pet was a caution and animal was not restrained properly or humanely.

Thanks for reaching out. I'm glad you brought up these issues. I'll flag them to our new Regional Hospital Director in the NE Ohio Regional so she can follow up with the team at Akron. It sounds like you're on the clinical team versus the front desk, but it's a smaller hospital so we'll circle back with the whole team if needed.

Pros

Get to use skills, work with animals.

Cons

Management, burn out rate, not valued as an employee. It's a corporation. They do not care about their employees or any type of work life balance. They expect you to work all of the time whether it's on call, picking up shifts or going to ridiculous meetings outside of scheduled hours all of the time. The managers will take advantage of you, abuse you and then blame you for being burnt out or shifts having low moral. They target certain employees and make their lives living hell for no reason other than one staff member said something negative about them because they dont like them. It's like working with a bunch of children and high school girls. They put making money for themselves above all else. The majority of employees that come through the door realize they no longer want to work in the veterinary field after dealing with the management here. The employees are all very negative and it directly is a result of crappy management. The entire er department is looked at as incompetent by other departments and our managers do not stick up for us. If you enjoy being overworked, underpaid, having no life outside of work and having managers make you feel like you aren't good enough then work here. Otherwise I do not with this place on anyone. Any positive reviews are probably written by management and not a real reflection of this work environment.

Thanks for your review. I'm sorry you're having a rough time. You didn't indicate your location, but I'd like to learn more about your experience. Please reach out to me directly or to your local HR Partner if you prefer. We're not a nameless, faceless corporation -- and we do care. But we need to know where specific focus is needed. Thank you.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. I'm not sure where you work, but if you have concerns about management I encourage you to surface those. If you know who your HR partner is, that would be a good person to talk with. We know burnout is an issue in our industry; we have just announced our enhanced Employee Assistance Program (EAP). ALL employees (even those who aren't on our benefits) have access to the EAP which includes 6 counseling sessions per situation. We want to help our team members take care of themselves.
