Pros

There are a few great people who work at Memorial Hermann who are positive and encouraging. Match 401K up to 2.5% when one gets two years of service. Ability to promote within the company.

Cons

Does not invest in the furthering of its employees education without serious strings attached. For every $1000 alloted, one year of service has to be promised. Max of $3000 per fiscal year. Sick time and vacation time are all in one bank. Most emplyees get 2-4 weeks for both sick and vacation time. Values physicians thoughts and opinions over non-physician staff.

Pros

goodly amount PTO, spiritual holidays, and personal time off.

Cons

computerized charting goes too far. you must drag a heavy cow wherever you go and scan every bracelet and every pill, eye drop, and ointment. it doesn't matter if the scan bar is smudged and won't. you will be disciplined. you must join a committee which exists just to bring it closer to magnet status. if you forget to chart one turn or one piece of education, you will receive an e mail. if you do not lable one tubing, you ill also receive an email. if one unreasonable horribly behaved needy patient or family member turns you in for not smiling while you are being yelled at, you will be discilplined/ spoken to. your whereabouts will be known at ALL times because you will wear a "nurse locater", along with a personal phone which will ring constantly. most days you will work til you drop from exhaustion, as soon as one discharges you will get two more as we cannot say no to ER

Pros

Flexible scheduling, benefits from day one of employment.

Cons

Plenty call-ins which causes your workload to increse (unhappy employees call-in), I recently graduated from a medical program and was told that I couldn't get a transfer into my new profession because I didn't complete my internship there; therefore, what's the use of tuition reinburstment or even trying to further your education if you can get a job at the hospital you already work at when there are open positions? At Herman, it's not what you know, it's whose "posterior" you are kissing. This place is not a best place to work. Plenty of politics!
