Pros

There really are no pros when a company is dishonest and nothing but smoke and mirrors. One pro was that lovely staff member who was honest enough to take me to the side and tell me the inside or truth as to what was really going on and why I and others were having to beg for loads.

Cons

I am writing this review so that other unsuspecting O/Os don't get fooled. I apologize to my family because Mercer nearly cost me everything. Mercer is filled with cheap loads, dishonest coordinators, lots of deadheading and sitting for days at a time and favoritism. For those of you who own your truck and are not leasing to own a truck through Quality at Mercer, you are last to receive loads and if you get a load here and there, they pay practically nothing, certainly not enough to cover fuel and expenses or support your family. Quality trucks get all the favortism and are first in line. Last week, 37 O/Os resigned, and their used trailers are in the lot sitting. Knowing the truth, I too have now resigned. I constantly found myself pleading for loads, only to be told that there were none and I would have to sit AGAIN. Whatever you do, boycott Mercer and don't be a victim. There are plenty of other companies, and right now, you, the O/O are in demand due to a shortage in drivers. Know your worth!

While we agree that Mercer may not be a good fit for everyone we have a track record of making Owner Operators successful, year after year, for nearly 40 years now; Long before there was ever a truck leasing option. It is unfortunate that not everyone succeeds, but it is a fact that Mercer Owner operators consistently do. Deepest regrets for your bad experience, best of luck in the future.

Pros

Good facility, many good helpful drivers, Many helpful events, ie fundraisers, dinners, BBQ cookouts, truck shows. seminars, ( all at the cost of the drivers of course) A lot of good friendly in house staff ( not all ). Top notch safety expectations & safety staff with a few exceptions in inspection locations. No forced dispatch. complete O/O, Fast pay.

Cons

Some planners are rude and only there to collect a paycheck, play favorites, back door load deals between planners, agents and drivers, by giving loads no one ever sees or is ever placed on the load board to drivers not even empty yet while others sit empty for days. . Not on a fair playing field. Loads being offered to drivers not even empty yet but because they have a big house & special they get the cream of the crop top paying loads NOONE ever even sees. ALOT OF SITTING. cheap load rates. Claim to have no dedicated loads TO DEDICATED DRIVERS ONLY and all loads are available as a first in first out to every driver but that's a bunch of BS. A lot of greedy agents that cut the rates to put more money in their pockets. VERY POOR IN HOUSE CONMUICATION.

Pros

You are the captain of your ship here. They expect you to know your business needs and cost. They do not hold your hand and tell you were or how to go. Find your own loads or let them run you it's your choice.

Cons

IT DEPARTMENT HAS COST ME MORE MONEY THAN I CARE TO MENTION. FIX YOUR CRAPPY IT DEPARTMENT NOW!! You force us to use it fix it. It's down or malfunctioning more than its up. That's money out of my pocket. It takes agents up hrs to book and dispatch drivers on loads by then the load disappears or makes us late to pu r del. Makes us look bad. They do play favorites with the big trucks. They get offered loads we as plain trucks never see. Dedicated runs if you want to pay agents the kickback fee to be put on them. The average flatbed rate at end of Nov is 1.57 cpm. But that's due to the 3.00 cpm for the 300 miles or less loads. Van is 1.25 cpm.
