Pros

The discount is a helpful incentive. The manager at my specific store would often buy lunch for us on the holidays or make it herself. It was nice to know that she appreciated her employees.

Cons

My biggest complaint about Michaels is the pay. I worked as a certified custom framer for almost three years and barely got a pay raise on my year anniversaries. Before I left I estimated that I had brought in tens of thousands of dollars for that company in custom framing business alone.

Pros

Work environment is good at store level, pay is good, mid level managers not to complicated. Good structure to assist management in daily tasks. Good hands on training! Promotion opportunities if you are relocatable. Bonus opportunities better than most retailers. Seasonal and fun work environment. Work hours are well balanced. Recovery at closing is great and not as detailed as in clothing. Stock and inventory control based on store volumn in managements control with key items automatically replenished.

Cons

Stores are low in volumn and can affect the management structure if it falls. Small associate staffs. May have to relocate for promotions. Promotion increases from one level to next within store is lower than coming from an outside avenue.

Pros

Very reliable place to work. The management is friendly, and if you are a part time employee they are very accepting of when you work. Its a great place for students they work around class schedules quite a bit.

Cons

The training is very minimal. It will feel as if you are thrown right into the job without knowing exactly how to do what you need to and this can be a problem while in framing where you are the only one in the store in that department. It gets quite embarrassing when a customer asks you a question that you don't know the answer too and neither does anyone else working.
