Pros

The only pros is they have quite a few good products build in C++, old Java era. And they want to keep those client. It was Good company to work for 2 years back, But in 2009 Merger with Attachmate and recent merger with Microfocus in 2015, has changed the company structure tremendously. There are huge lay offs happened recently- in India it was a silent procedure, employees are forced to resign. No hike for past two years, yes if you suck the boot of the manager you may get 5% hike. Tremendous pressure from unskilled, unprofessional managers, and no work from Home. Even if you have leave, you have to take SPECIAL permission (Read begging) from the GOD (Read Manager). Finally Novell is no more Nobel now.

Cons

Nothing you learn as a new technology, Old java, C++ and all old technology they work on. When I joined there were Work from home, but soon after the 1st merger a lot of structured changes in the management, WFH was not possible, even if some people needed, manger would call them up and ask to come to office, or apply leave. Suppose you are on leave, manager does not hesitate to ask you to cancel leave and come to office because some issues has come. After providing lots of evidence that you really need leave they agree. Work life balance will be a toss. Don't expect it. you have to work there for 10-12 hours everyday to fulfill manager's greed. They follow agile, Lean principle, and sometime they follow for the sake of following. No learnings from the failures. Sometimes you don't know whom to report - tech lead or manager. Manager does the best to bypass tech-lead and take ownership. Give a thumbs down to Tech-lead in front of the team mates. Shame.

Pros

Outstanding technical minds and engineering resources. Passionate employees who are fun to work with. Decent benefits.

Cons

Management is out of touch with their ground-level employees. Additionally, management cares little about customers and only about shareholders: it has become a vicious cycle of auditing/alienating best customer through shady compliance practices to extract every bit of revenue today at the expense of long-term customer relationships. The new compensation plans rolled out in May skyrocketed quotas, making it darn-near impossible for Sales Managers to make good money through organic sales (only prayer is to hope for a multiple, significant compliance situations). If you are thinking about working in a commission-based capacity here, you must negotiate a high base, as you won't be able to hit unattainable accelerators (barring a miracle). During your interview, have some fun and ask what % of the Sales team hit quota last year. That said... if you are thinking about joining our team, come in with eyes wide open.
