Working in Warehouse

Pros

The pay wasn't bad, and they did what they could to help keep employees motivated. There was a lot of the usual corporate talk of employee and company values. There was mandatory OT, but the company did what they could to keep employees happy by catering food and bringing in snacks. For a warehouse, it seemed to be quite polarizing. People either seemed to love the company and love the work, or dislike it.

Cons

The mandatory overtime was pretty brutal. You would be stuck working for 10 hours five days a week, which can wear you down quickly in a warehouse. The other frustration was that with the company being a decent drive away from the city, it was too easy to not have much of a break if you didn't bring your own food. Since your break was exactly 30 minutes (if you were even a minute late, it counted against you, and if you were on watch, could be enough to get you fired) . By the time you get clocked out, filter through the 30 other people clocking out, and then walk to your locker and finally your car, you have already used up 5 to 10 minutes of your break. When you're at best a 5 or 7 minute drive away from the nearest restaurant, you risk being late just to eat. That leaves bringing your own meal or eating gas station food. Additionally, the raises were a bit underwhelming. So much of it was based off of your numbers, which could fluctuate depending on where you were most often. Poorly picked packages might lead to your shipping numbers being hurt when you try to re-count something that could have tons of individual items in it. At the same time, other stations didn't have any real way of measuring how well you did.
