Pros

No one is a micro manager and in most cases, you can run your program with no extraneous interventions. It's a generally light and humorous atmosphere with a great mission.

Cons

Lack of clear policies and defined roles & responsibilities can lead to overlap in some areas and create gaps in others.

Pros

There's a lot of money to be made very quickly. Your checks here will go straight into the bank, as you will see lots of different countries.

Cons

Too many to list. Inept leadership, terrible communication between leadership and crew, and very little consideration for time off. It doesn't matter if you've sailed a year straight with them (away from family and kids), they will want you to back after three weeks. Your detailer will not be sympathetic to anything you give them.

Pros

Good starting point for the marine time industry especially for young licensed individuals straight out of school. You will move up fast and gain sea time fairly quick. Federal based job and guaranteed employment if your looking for financial stability.

Cons

You will ALWAYS be gone. assignments are a minimum of 4 months and your usually overdue for a additional 30-45 days making the average assignment 5-6 months long at a time the expected work rotation. In which afterwards you will only be allowed 30 days leave at home before being considered AWOL or threatened with leave without pay or termination even if you have the leave time available on the books.
