Not as glamorous as you may think

Pros

- coworkers are great - fun places to chill around the office, like bean bag chairs - use Macs

Cons

The pay is much lower than industry standards. There are a lot of things going on internally that won't show in an interview. Many people have written about it on here but those posts are mysteriously disappearing. As soon as a negative review pops up, an email goes out to the whole company asking that we submit a positive review to counteract it. In my opinion, these reviews should be candid and unsolicited. Management isn't very involved in the day to day success of employees and expects everyone to know everything or figure it out on their own. Benefits aren't great and health insurance is so expensive you might as well find your own, less expensive plan.

Thanks for your feedback. We evolve our internal processes continuously to keep up with our growth. Two weeks ago we hired a SVP of Human Capital Management who is working directly with every team member in the company to make sure goals are met and training plans are executed. He has performed competitor and market analysis and found that our benefits are comparable if not better than our competition including salaries and health care. Our salaries did generally lag the market due to bootstrapping the company, which is why we created a profit sharing program for all employees - so they could earn long term upside for initial concessions in salary. Our total compensation for most team members is now higher than our direct competition. Health Care costs are expensive in general. Some employers pay more for health care but do not have the total compensation, benefits and perks that we provide. Pros

- great people, I seriously enjoy working and spending time with my coworkers and consider many of them to be good friends - everyone is genuinely talented and good at what they do - incredible perks like monthly beer club, VR and game room, ping pong table, pool table, data plan/ezPass/gym membership stipends, training stipend, 401k matching, profit sharing, adventure club ( we've done paintball and even a ski trip where lift tickets, food, and weekend stay at a chalet on the mountain was covered by Mindgrub ) - interesting office and good location - leadership genuinely cares about employees and welcomes feedback with open door policies - company has been doing incredibly well and growing very quickly so career development and upward mobility is good - flexible schedule

Cons

- expectations can be VERY high and it can get stressful and overwhelming at times - all those awesome perks do come at a price and you will find that salaries are competitive but a bit lower than other companies in the same field - quick growth also means there are some growing pains: things change quickly so you must be good at adapting - insurance is pretty expensive compared to larger companies - PTO is only about average in my opinion

Lack of interest and guidance

Pros

Decent pay, nice area, cool building

Cons

Management did not care about teaching me. Instead, they got mad when I wasn't learning at a pace acceptable to them, even though they did nothing to communicate with me what needed to be learned. Also, they would constantly change their minds and act like it was my fault that I wasn't able to know exactly what they were going say/do next. Very, very discouraging experience. Complete lack of knowledge on how to train employees. Complete lack of compassion. Very unprofessional and management doesn't seem to report to anyone but themselves so they can do whatever they please.

Sorry to hear about your experience at Mindgrub. Growing from 40 to 80 last year presented new challenges. We realized we needed better accountability and training and added both an HR system for goal planning and accountability and honed our training processes to have an annual training plan by department. You should have had weekly, quarterly and annual reviews where both goals and training plans were jointly crafted and reviewed. We did just add a new Human Capital Manager to work with all team members and see that all Managers follow these processes.
