Job Seekers Beware

Pros

There aren't any other than it's a job.

Cons

Horrible work life balance, terrible benefits and little PTO. Executive level management continues to use the excuse that it's a start-up company when reality is it's a 20 year old organization. Deadlines and projects fall short far too often as all employees are stretched too thin, which ultimately leads to diminishing client satisfaction and increasing employee frustration. Processes, standards and proper onboarding are basically non-existent. Work is sold even though expertise isn't available or existent in house to perform said tasks. List of cons is very long indeed.

As Mindgrub values feedback, both from current and former employees, we want to thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that your experience at Mindgrub was not an optimal one. Mindgrub fosters an impeccable work/life balance, both prior and during the pandemic. We promote a “work from anywhere” environment, including flexibility within our employee’s work schedule. Mindgrub believes in the need to disconnect from work, which is why we offer a minimum of 3 weeks PTO, along with a floating holiday, federal holidays, jury duty, bereavement leave, and parental leave. The Leadership at Mindgrub invests a profound amount of interest and time in the growth of, not only Mindgrub, but the employees at Mindgrub as well. We wish you success in your future endeavors.

Pros

Relaxed environment Wide variety of work Relaxed policy about lunch beers and the like Fantastic and talented people to work with Ability to work from home on occasion Provide the means to improve professionally, whether its online courses or the occasional conference Monthly catered meetings Amazing monthly beer club at the office after work Occasional also amazing adventure club outings, which tend to be something wild like paintball, kayaking, or skii trip There’s also a killer Fun Committee for happy hours and an annual Mindgrub Olympics

Cons

Embarrassingly underpaid salaries Hilariously out of touch ‘Human Capital Management’ department Having to micromanage your timesheet. I get it, but it’s still a pain Consistently overworking the employees to meet overpromised deadlines. There was a particularly bad stretch working with an...exellont client where the mobile, web, and design teams were putting in 50 hour weeks for several months. Eventually much further down the line, a couple comp days were handed out but it was awful for morale. They’re down to 2 or 3 project managers for the same number of projects that were handled by 11 PMs originally. This is probably my biggest issue. The CEO has literally told the company at the monthly meetings that employees are expected to work the extra hours in order to meet deadlines(with no compensation unless one dogs their manager for months, then a token day or two maybe). He then pulled up a spreadsheet of worked hours for the company and was extolling the 50-60hr employees and saying they’re a great example to the rest. The CEO also has odd pursuits for the business that come out of left field, such as the SNAX robot that’s supposed to deliver snacks to people at their desks. At every stage it wasn’t seen as feasible (and it still isn’t), though it’s a fun side project to show off. But I can’t help but feel like these pursuits aren’t justified as the best uses of money when everyone is underpaid and overworked.

Pros

Decent pay, nice area, cool building

Cons

Management did not care about teaching me. Instead, they got mad when I wasn't learning at a pace acceptable to them, even though they did nothing to communicate with me what needed to be learned. Also, they would constantly change their minds and act like it was my fault that I wasn't able to know exactly what they were going say/do next. Very, very discouraging experience. Complete lack of knowledge on how to train employees. Complete lack of compassion. Very unprofessional and management doesn't seem to report to anyone but themselves so they can do whatever they please.

Sorry to hear about your experience at Mindgrub. Growing from 40 to 80 last year presented new challenges. We realized we needed better accountability and training and added both an HR system for goal planning and accountability and honed our training processes to have an annual training plan by department. You should have had weekly, quarterly and annual reviews where both goals and training plans were jointly crafted and reviewed. We did just add a new Human Capital Manager to work with all team members and see that all Managers follow these processes.
