Pros

* Nice location in Baltimore. Close to the inner harbor, and to the highway. * The company sponsors occasional employee events like happy hours and holiday parties. They also allow employees to use the office space during non-business hours for group activities like board game nights, movies, and the like. * The dress code is informal. * Company appears to be doing well, and will likely continue to grow. * Several places to get lunch within walking distance. * Variety of company-sponsored clubs, including a cycling group, an adventure club, and a beer tasting meetup. * Office has a pool table, rock climbing wall, and shuffleboard table, although they rarely see use. * Very active ping pong ladder. * Very strong culture.

Cons

* Parking at the office has progressively worsened, primarily due to new construction in the area. * Physical separation between creatives and engineers. * No personal storage space, so any personal items can only be left out in the open. Personal items occasionally get moved or go missing. * The company hosts events in the office during office hours. Employees are not notified in advance so that the office appears busy during the event. * No quiet areas in the office. Meeting rooms are frequently over-booked. * Employee departures are very rarely announced. This raises tension in the office, as coworkers slowly disappear from the office without explanation. * The company has an unwritten policy that providing lunch during a meeting means that the meeting is excluded from an employees working hours. Some of these meetings are mandatory, which has led to scheduling/time management problems. Doubly so when the mandatory meetings take longer than expected. * Criticism of decisions by management are responded to with scorn and aggression. Employees are encouraged to only respond in private, closed-door meetings with HR. Public criticism is considered destructive behavior. * Occasional one-on-one meetings with employees that have not worked sufficient overtime. Their hours are compared against the company's "top performers". * Employees frequently feel required to work during their lunch break. * Adoption of agile methodology has been limited in scope. * A survey was sent to employees to determine whether the benefit of combining sick leave and vacation time would be worthwhile even if the combined time was reduced. Survey results were never made available. Vacation time and sick leave were combined and then reduced. When asked, management said that the company could not have afforded to pay the previous amounts, indicating that the survey was irrelevant.

Thank you for your taking the time to write a review. While some of your comments are helpful and would have been appreciated through our normal communications channels, others are incorrect. A few things you should know: You can request personal locking storage space. All inter-office events are announced, though we can do better communicating that. We do have a documented and cascading communication strategy regarding employee departures. No meetings are mandatory that you cannot count toward your working day. Management is appreciative of constructive criticism. Team members requested a switch to PTO which we considered and put out for vote to the entire company. Then we went with what the majority (>75%) favored. Survey results were shared in our monthly meeting. While we pride ourselves as being a top places to work year over year, both locally and nationally, there is always room for better communication.

Pros

By far, the best thing about Mindgrub is the people you get to work with. Every member of the teams I got to work with were professional and put their all into every project. We didn't always have the easiest clients to work with, but that didn't stop anyone from trying their best. You'll always have a shoulder to learn if you work at Mindgrub. Mindgrub also tries to put on company-wide events that are sometimes great. A few can be a little cheesy, but overall the happy hours and stuff around the city is fun.

Cons

Mindgrub cares more about its image than it does employees. This fact is pretty obvious when you see the numerous fake reviews on glassdoor. It's a well-known secret within the company that some reviews are faked by leaderhship. Burnout is a regular thing at Mindgrub, and leadership doesn't do much to stop it. During COVID, regular employees were given no support besides some company-wide emails. The turnover rate is also extremely high. People leave in bunches and don't look back.

I’m sorry you feel we haven’t supported our team members during COVID and have high turnover. We did, in fact, invest a lot of time and energy this year into team-member heath and wellness through our dedicated Wellness Week, Games For Good, work from home stipends, hardship loans, exceptional communications, social programming, Fun Committee, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Remote Workers Committee, a new Intranet, Marketplace, and now we’re adding 3 more paid holidays to get us through the end of COVID. We also have had turnover less than 18% annually for years now, in an industry that averages double that. In addition, Glassdoor removes fake reviews. I realize perception trumps reality and the world seems unfair. I assure you we care deeply and invest immensely in our team. I see you have moved on from the company now. Good luck with your future endeavors.

Pros

- Cool work space (climbing walls, VR room, ping pong) - Very intelligent and driven people - Mostly agile environment - Supportive of training, mostly. (Only if there is a lack of billable work.) - Good benefits - Allows working from home in some situations

Cons

- Pay is not competitive with other tech companies in the area. Nearly everyone there recognizes this, but Mindgrub keeps people working there because it is filled with awesome people. It is a great place to learn and grow. - Nearly every project goes long. Clients are sold on a quick turnaround even if it's impossible. This seemed to be improving recently, though. - Little to no plans for employee growth

For more than 10 years Mindgrub and has been hiring and developing great people and we plan to continue to do so as we grow. Comments like yours are a great way for senior leadership to evaluate better ways to improve the employee experience. Good luck with your new opportunity and please stay connected.
