Great learning experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the English Department.

Pros

The English department has incredible faculty that guide you through your two years of teaching. The office atmosphere with the other teaching assistants can't really be rivaled, especially with the friendships that develop as well as the professional development opportunities.

Cons

Even though the pay for this position includes a tuition waiver, the salary was barely enough to get by. It was also hard to balance teaching responsibilities (grading, teaching, conferences) with my own class responsibilities.
