Pros

The university increased the salaries of their support staff across the board in 2014. Much of the administrative processes were converting to digital during my time there. Excellent training provided.

Cons

The ERP system (Banner by Ellucian) can be frustrating. Some of the staff lacked a big-picture perspective and would see other departments as adversarial.

Pros

As a student worker, the schedule is very flexible and as part of the service desk you get paid well ($9.50 at the moment)

Cons

There's so much bureaucracy and red tape that if you don't just ignore it and tip toe so that you don't accidentally take a side you'll get sucked into the horrible vortex of ridiculous workplace power struggles. Also, the service desk people, who takes phone calls, chats and in-person account issues, are only paid 40 cents more than lab assistants who sit and scroll through Imgur and occasionally help someone fix their wifi. The first two weeks of every semester is hell for both the labs and the service desk, but primarily the service desk since they get the most contact with users.
