Pros

They do not fir employees. The college of second third and fourth chances

Cons

When employees fall short nothing is done to ensure they know the action is unacceptable There is no training Directors and other leaders are not allowed to function effectively because of micromangement at the top tier They are not interested in new ideas and progression. They don't even care about the best interest of the student. They just want to make money for themself (top level) You are not promoted based on apptitude or proven track record, it is done based on whether or not they like you and you will not be liked if you do not agree with everything management says, no matter how ridiculous Management is out of touch with the realities of 2013 The pay is definitely undesirable. There is now a pay cut because management made foolish decisions with payroll for years. Everyone is feeling the burn except them. There is no structure or procedures. Everyone does what is convenient to them. They do not have job descriptions or contracts. They love when you extend yourself and the only reward is lip service

Pros

Pay rate is good, although they try to keep you at less than 30 hours so they don't have to provide benefits. Many students are earnest and happy to receive good teaching, although some are just there because they got the FAFSA money--which is Monroe's main interest. Staff has to help illiterate students complete their FAFSA applications

Cons

Some managers are certifiable (read that as you may). For example, if you miss one day, they put their face within 4 inches of yours and say "Do you want to work here???!!!" Heard of at least two nice, well-liked (by students) teachers who were there one day and gone the next, for unknown reasons.

Pros

They have great athletic and culinary programs. They pay a little more than other comparable schools . Great 401k benefits and health savings accounts. Fridays are half day. They offer employees the option to take their courses free of charge. A lot of country club events (required to attend) but also nice . They provide students who otherwise couldn't access higher education (because of grades, financial constraints, undocumented or illegal immigrants , and those with felony or criminal history ) the opportunity to attend college.

Cons

They overwork you, expect you to work weekends, evenings, and early mornings . Your also required to attend the mojority of sporting events (weekends and nights) along with working random weekends (with very little notice) as well as 1 late night a week until 730pm. You must be in by 830 am and they take attendance and record the exact minute you arrive (even if you worked late or weekends when not required). Upper management is threatening , intimidating, and overall unprofessional. Everything is last minute, and backwards and as a result staff is forced to undo or re-do what has to be done or a project suffers because of time constraints. No opportunity for professional development. Those who have prior experience in higher ed or student affairs find the ability to implement change so difficult. The service, educational standards, housing facilities is substandard, and not cost effective.
