      Pros

      The benefits at Morningstar and the corporate culture are best in class. The opportunities for advancement are there, but the business groups can be cliquish.

      Cons

      Human resources can be secretive. I received two job offers at once within the firm, and they would not tell me the compensation package until I decided which offer I wanted to accept. The business units also operate as silos sometimes.

      Pros

      The mission: Investors Come First. Six week paid sabbatical after four years. Lots of opportunity to do a lot of different things. Potential for excellent experience.

      Cons

      Several areas are not competitive on salary, in exchange for other benefits of working at Morningstar that have waned over the years. A collegial workplace, but one full of passive aggressive personalities, opaque decision making and politics.

      Fun Place to Work but limited Upward Movement

      Pros

      Great work environment, nice people, diverse crowd from different backgrounds, countries etc. Tons of social activities and community service opportunities.. Can take a lot of vacation time and good health benefits...

      Cons

      Very lateral, thus no where to move up in career. Upper management is too young so no one is leaving the company because they have a lot of stock options which limits growth for middle management. Hardly any salary raises. Some departments are better than others but still no promotions are rare. You have to move departments or leave to get recognized.
