Pros

Remote friendly environment. Constant churn throughout the company keeps recruiters busy backfilling.

Cons

Sales organization is constantly changing from the top down. They still haven’t figured out the recipe to success so quotas, expectations and KPI’s remain dynamic. The new VP of MM was promoted from SMB and carries his micromanaging/patronizing style with him. He enforces that you should be grateful the company guarantees you a salary to cold call like an SDR or you should become a real estate agent. The sales org leaders are process driven and lack people skills. They will not provide any value to customer facing calls to support executive alignment when closing deals.

Pros

The friendships I made there and continue to have.

Cons

For many months I have avoided writing this post because I did meet some very wonderful people at Motive, but after reading all the negative reviews I think anyone applying here should know the truth about Motive, at least my truth. Avoid this company at all costs especially if you are looking to be somewhere long term. C-suite and management do not care about you, but will pretend that they do. Layoffs after layoffs after layoffs and empty promises that you are safe and that they will not have anymore riffs. No empathy whatsoever. Yes, they had to shift things because of the state of the economy and/ or Covid, but maybe don't mass hire and maybeeee take into account your employers who work their butts off for you. The worst part about the layoffs is that they laid off women that were on maternity leave….men on paternity leave…. All in a mass email. Again, no empathy or accountability whatsoever. Thinking now on it how disgusting it all was but being scared to mention anything in hopes of not hurting anyone’s feelings or retaliation. Yes, a severance package is provided, but to mess with someone’s emotions during such a vulnerable and what should be a joyful time is just wrong on so many levels. Shame on you, Shoaib, who might I add is a father himself. You should know better. And to that person commenting on each bad review, I know it’s your job and I’m sure you’re probably a great person, but please don’t waste your time on mine.

This is not the experience we want for any of our team members walking away with. We deeply appreciate the time you took to leave your candid review and feedback as it only helps us grow better. Motive is a family-friendly company as evidenced by providing parental leave for people who have only been at Motive for six months. If you'd be open to providing further feedback, please contact us at opendoor@gomotive.com.

Pros

There are no longer any pros to working in this position or for this company.

Cons

Motive's new sales leadership is disrespectful and condescending to both prospects and employees. They continually get over-involved in deals and cause Motive to lose out repeatedly to their least advanced competitors due to the painstaking experiences they give our prospects through over-involvement in the sales process. Sales Leadership does nothing to bring value to the organization and spends their time bottlenecking 5 unit orders to try and justify their position. The newest sales leaders in place have zero actual sales experience or relevant degrees and micromanage / harass their employees and this has caused a mass exodus of tenured and over achieving sales reps. This has become the most unenjoyable place to work at I've ever experienced and after bearing witness to 5 mass layoffs in a 5 year timeframe I refuse to remain silent any longer. The new sales leaders in Mid Market speak to people in ways that completely dehumanize and disenfranchise them from working at or with Motive. To make matters worse Motive HR has been made well aware of the transgressions of their leadership but has swept everything under the rug and done absolutely nothing to safeguard their employees from the harassment or discrimination in the workplace. I am well aware of multiple "Investigations" brought to light by Motive HR that resulted in absolutely no punitive actions against the Sales Leadership but cost multiple people on the front line their jobs for speaking up. Furthermore, Motive's sales leadership constantly shifts metrics and sales territories in an effort to stifle commissions due to reps and does nothing to protect their sales representatives from constantly shifting territories or verbally abusive managers. I would absolutely never recommend anyone to work at this company. I would be absolutely shocked if the company is ever able to go public in the future given the clear misappropriation of funds into terrible investments that yield no return to the company and result in the 5 mass layoffs that I personally have witnessed over the last 5 years. Lastly, the new sales leadership is flat out guilty of racial and affinity bias...Example: My old boss was told she could not receive a promotion because she was not from an Ivy league school despite having 5+ years of successful tenure with the company. Instead a White man with an ivy league degree (in an unrelated field) was hired in her place and has been by far the worst manager I've ever had in my life and has caused an entire department to become absolutely miserable at this company. If you look at Motive's leadership in sales it is almost exclusively White men with Ivy league degrees (many from the same alma mater). Lastly, the companies "Mass Layoffs" were all completely from the hip and absolutely random since they were in such fear of a lawsuits that they ended up firing some of their best employees and as a result the customer service and overall experience for customers has become absolutely awful as well. Overall would recommend you to avoid this company like the plague unless you're someone who is willing to put up with blatant sexism, racism, harassment, etc... for a decent paycheck.

This is absolutely not the experience we want for any of our team members. At Motive, we actively strive to provide an environment where team members feel they’re valued and respected. Each manager is regularly trained on unconscious bias, inclusive leadership, anti-discrimination, and building trust and psychological safety on teams. You dedicated over 6 years to Motive and we'd love to learn more about your specific experience to improve. Please reach out to us at opendoor@gomotive.com to share your experience further. We appreciate your open and honest feedback.
