In my experience, a great company

Pros

The company is willing to try new approaches, makes an effort to give lots of opportunities to learn about dog and cat health, nutrition, behavior and physiology as well as business operations. There are abundant opportunities to participate in the larger work of building the company. No other employer I've ever worked for has given me the such scope and oppotunity to explore and expand my abilities. Is Mud Bay perfect, no. Have I ever worked for a company that is? No. And while everyone has their difficult moments (including me), I am every day delighted to work with such a great group of dedicated and kind people.

Cons

Change is a constant and if you don't like dealing with that you won't be a good fit for Mud Bay.

Pros

- You are guaranteed to work with animal lovers. - The employee discount is awesome. - You can bring your pets to work as long as they are well-behaved. - Small business = opportunities to learn things you might never have gotten to touch in a larger corporation.

Cons

- Expectations are a constantly moving target. - Pay is nowhere near industry averages. - Dysfunctional communication starting with upper management and trickling down.

Forgetting their Educational Roots

Pros

Most of the other staff are incredible people Sales reps will sometimes come by and do trainings The customers can be amazing and you get to meet animals all day long Great discount on product, ok discount on food

Cons

There are no benefits unless you are a lead. They will often hire management from outside than allow growth from within. The company is quickly steering away from being a workplace of educated staff and more about pushing product. Ever since their educator quit there are no more educational trainings. When employees have gone to management to talk about their frustration with the company's changes the response that they are given is "if your not happy with the direction Mud Bay is headed then you can always quit", and then are fired afterward for not being excited enough about the company. the company is growing too fast and the careless growing is causing many problems.
