Pros

Pros are few but there are some nice and intelligent people you will meet, either in your present studio or at another location. You will find some coworkers care about their work and the well-being of each other. And there is an encouragement of innovation and out-of-the-box thinking. The problem is that a select few actually are allowed to design or have their views considered. The remaining are relegated to production work, menial tasks, and in some cases, they are informed by management that they don't have any skills.

Cons

Unfortunately the firm, from the very top to those in the “core team” continue to conduct business as usual. There’s too much that is flawed in the overall industry landscape to claim it’s unique at this firm only. And you can find some common themes in other negative reviews. What would be unique is there doesn’t seem to be much training for those that are in leadership roles. If there is, something isn’t working.

Pros

Very nice coworkers, there is a core group of fun people who are doing their best to enjoy making good design in their corner of a large corporate global firm. Benefits are solid Awesome office location near transit. Although the NYC subway sucks now.

Cons

You WILL be designing a global tech dystopia. If the Great Reset and the Chinese Century turn you on, this is the job for you. If you're worried about basic human freedoms, including your own at work, stay far away. Pay is low, hours are long, holidays are not respected. You WILL own nothing, wagie.

Rudderless Leadership

Pros

The structure of studios to (somewhat) form their own goals around their practice, their business and culture. Ability to work on a variety of projects due to firm size.

Cons

Endless white man bureacracy. Firm wants to be perceived as innovative and excellent in terms of design, but they are too greedy to invest in it. Culturally, the partnership is completely out of touch with the staff. Nobody really matters, and it's painfully obvious on a cultural level. For example, a retirement party for a 30 year veteran thought leader takes the form of a 15 minute toast with an inch of champagne where a partner says a few things, everybody else stands around and then goes right back to their desk. It's just painful how no one matters there.
