Bullying tolerated

Pros

Nice office and free lunch with BBQs on Fridays during the summer.

Cons

Notified HR on several occasions about workplace bullying. Was told they spoke to the person more than once and that didn't seem to work. Even had them take sensitivity training. They just tolerate it from this person who will not change and struts around like a playground bully. HR knows it is a problem but ignore it. Too many ill informed managers who like to stroke their own ego. Good performers get minimal increases in pay. Big egos that are not approachable.

Pros

Attractive Bonus and more pay than other companies (that is what most people working at NRG think). Free 3 course lunch is provided all 5 days.

Cons

The salary and the bonus package may be attractive but if you see the number of hours you work-the per hour salary and the stress is not worth working at NRG. For the last 10 years NRG is in an buying spree-it keeps acquiring bigger corporations thus overloading work for the employees.

Losing its way

Pros

I am an employee with many years of tenure and have been able to grow with the company and believe that what we do provides real value. The work is interesting and continues to be engaging. Compensation is generally competitive (with some notable exceptions). Time-off is generous, especially as you build tenure. Several coworkers have become life-long friends. I believe the company has safety and employee well-being in mind when it makes decisions.

Cons

The last few years have been rough: COVID, the Feb 2021 winter storm, and July of 2022 were difficult for the power sector. During this time, I think the company has lost focus and has consistently undervalued employee contributions. After working our tail off in 2021 and 2022 to integrate Direct Energy and deliver on our goals, it was galling for the company to give out bonuses at ~50% of target company-wide. No one made Mauricio Gutierrez push to spend $$$$ to purchase Vivint. No one made the company spend $$$$ to increase the dividend and buy back shares. Direct Energy made sense - Vivint does not, and seems like a CEO vanity project. All of these "investments" are being made on the back of employees and are huge distractions. Wall Street agrees. It is time to right the ship.
