Pros

- Due to his vision of NRG becoming the leading clean power company in the US, former CEO (David Crane) attracted many highly motivated and talented people - Many of them are determined to transform NRG towards a cleaner, more sustainable power company - There are a few very good managers, dedicated to mentorship and growth of their teams

Cons

- NRG is the opposite of a meritocracy. Promotions are made based on tenor within the company, not on merit. - Huge pay discrepancies between individuals with the same experience and title (up to 80%) - Lack of diversity. 80% male, 70% white - In-transparent hiring decisions - Lack of employee empowerment. This leads to a culture where too often the answer to your question is: "I have to ask my manager for approval and will get back to you." - Unclear/ undefined growth paths - In-transparent decision-making: senior management draws up strategies with little input from teams actually doing the work leading to constant restructuring - Different departments/teams operate very siloed from one another leading to a lot of duplication of work and misunderstandings/mistrust

Pros

Good pay, focus on safety.

Cons

Cronyism, old utility unions, focused on entitlements for long term employees of unions and management. New hires pawns used to protect this sanctity. Unstable work environment with low work ethic. Entremely emotional managers who seem to have missed management 101. Landing zone for ejected PSEG employees. Desparately trying to integrate nuclear programs into antique fossil fuel plants with employees at the threshhold of retirement.

Pros

Low expectations. Good pay. Bankers hours. Most employees are pleasant to work with.

Cons

Inexperienced leaders made up of only long-term employees with no real-world experience. Watch your back with all leaders across the company. Lots of wasted time in meetings. No one can make a decision.
