Pros

-Noble mission -Get whatever you want if you're a systems engineer

Cons

-No leadership connection to the NSF which would guarantee our success -A few people are really fake, back stabbing, or screwed up -Many good people have already left -Systems engineering department is strangling our company with bureaucracy -Systems in place are too bureaucratic to accomplish anything -The worst HR department imaginable

Pros

Benefits? But that might be changing.... It was an admirable mission at one point in time.

Cons

NEON management works hard to earn the distrust of its employees and the public. I eagerly accepted a job at NEON because I believed in the mission to provide long-term ecological data sets to the public, allowing the opportunity for truly transparent science. I resigned because the management of this project is un-apologetically far more fascinated with dishonesty and disrespect than science or real data. NEON propagates and rewards laziness. I echo what others have said: managers can collect paychecks for doing nothing, not even showing up for work.
