Pros

The benefits package is excellent. The challenges presented on a daily basis make NEON a great place it learn how to work in a stressful atmosphere.

Cons

Lack of leadership has proven to be the biggest issue. A project this size needs to solid leadership from the top down along with trust in the team you built tackle the day to day issues. Not listening to or trusting that the team has the knowledge to make the right decision means either, you picked the wrong team or your not willing to change.

A Total Mess

Pros

The company mission is very interesting and has the potential to be an amazing project.

Cons

Complete lack of communication between compartments. The field managers are constantly changing their minds about dates and procedures. There is extreme micromanagement where field employees are not able to talk to anyone outside the department, but concerns are not addressed by the managers. There is no possible way to implement the field protocol in the time allocated and most domains have never finished a full season of measurements. It's as if the whole project was designed by people who have never managed or conducted research. It's an environment where you are censured for asking questions, which goes against scientific principle.

Pros

Science is great, has the potential to truly change the way we think about the world. People are well meaning.

Cons

Funded by NSF, who has no clue what-so-ever on how to manage such a project. NSF constantly causes confusion, loss of morale, lack of guidance, dumbs down the whole project and costs taxpayers 10's of millions of dollars
