Pros

Accessible and convenient location, work two days per week, ID entry, multiple refrigerators and microwaves

Cons

10-week quarter system, ZOOM is overused, low faculty retention, poor adjunct pay, no say in the curriculum, little time to teach, students have papers due back-to-back, content meetings unuseful, instead of e-books, barely readable scanned readings are provided, Hakwes is used as a replacement for teaching, no computers in the classroom, teachers have to bring their own laptops, poor standards for students, students fail and repeat courses, no building from low-stakes to high-stakes assignments, no cafeteria, no free supplies, such as markers, for teachers, D2L is confusing for students, adjuncts make 16,000 per year

Pros

NLU feels like a family- the culture is positive and inclusive. As a mission-driven institution, it's clear that NLU cares about providing access and equity for under-served and under-privileged students. The work is meaningful, fulfilling, and rewarding.

Cons

The pay here is extremely low, even for a non-profit University. The NLU website boasts that: "Our students enter the work force earning an estimated $43,000 per year after graduation". If that's true, they would out-earn me by about $5,000! It seems like they don't mind turning over employees, as if staff positions are just stepping stones for people to come and go within 1-2 years.

Pros

Great instructors and staff; criminal justice program is a great addition to the university

Cons

School seems to be going toward a for profit model; does not seem to care about the students anymore
