Pros

Work from home is fine.

Cons

The company is going through a transitional period because of a recent merger. However, it is an absolute circus. Training did not prepare me for my job. I've been with the company for two months and I'm already looking for the exit. The insurance is lackluster. Nobody knows what's going on at a given time. There's no sense of community. Every team meeting turns into an argument about something.

Smoke and Mirrors

Pros

Working from home; some decent coworkers; talk to some good students who want to advance their career or change their life trajectory.

Cons

Unnecessary micromanagement - Management tracks how long you're available on the call center platform to receive live calls. They also monitor how many calls you make, how long you're on the phone, and how much talk time you have. There are daily virtual team meetings that are so redundant. They consist of announcing your numbers in front of the rest of the team. If you're not on pace to hit monthly numbers, it will be announced to your team. The top performers are lauded with fake praise. There are also weekly one on one meetings with your manager that are awkward. They listen to a call you made and critique it. You will be judged on how well you follow the script and how well you keep a prospective student on the phone to apply. They want you to be aggressive with students and push them to apply on every call. The job is simply a call center sales job disguised as student advising. Yes, you meet some good students that you connect with and help, but meeting your enrollment numbers is the name of the game. If you don't hit a monthly goal, management finds a reason to write you up. It's not totally management's fault, as they have management above them breathing down their neck. One time our team was short goal on the last day of the month, and my manager called me virtually out of the blue and was real aggressive with me, desperately wanting me to find any student that could commit that day.

Pros

The only tolerable thing about this job was it was fully remote.

Cons

Everyone is overworked and underpaid and micromanaged. No trust between management and employees. You must clock in and out and are basically chained to your desk because every minute is accounted for. Management watches every move and you must tell why you miss a call for EVERY missed call, regardless if you are working on another task or if you call the student back. Academic Advising and Financial Aid departments have been combined with inadequate training. Student business services (collections) and student concierge services are in the process of being dismantled as well, which means that all this work is falling on the advisors. Unrealistic expectations for the day-to-day duties and big picture work, which is created by a MAJOR disconnect with upper management. Most hires for promotions are outside hires, NO upward mobility for loyal employees, which continues to make upper management out of touch with the employees who actually do the work. Every department is understaffed and overworked. Pay is terrible. Admissions/enrollment advisors are expected to meet sales-like numbers, making student quality inadequate and only creates further problems with failing classes etc. Advisors are the middle man between the students and other departments and the day-to-day job becomes fixing other people's mistakes, which largely stem from inadequate training, unrealistic expectations, and hiring folks that are inexperienced from outside vs taking care of the employees they already have. Low morale and employees are left burnt out and not able to truly care about their students anymore. When the 2% year raise comes around it takes MONTHS to process and you are left waiting for backpay. Do not work here and do not attend school here.
