Pros

Teaching is a rewarding profession and I love doing it. Better county pay supplement than the rest of state.

Cons

The school system seems to be lacking stability and job cuts and/or shuffles are commonplace. Pay does not keep up with private sector Benefits seem to be getting cut, it seems like the state wants to slowly erode these away and move towards charter.

There are some great teachers the work for New Hanover County. It is clear many of the teachers have a love for what they do.

Cons

The people in the office do not care at all for their teachers. The pay is terrible for the amount they require of the teachers.

The amount of pay per day or half day isn't bad. You can freely choose which schools to go to on the substitute recruitment cite called Frontline.

Cons

Not many teachers leave note about how the classes are normally. For K-5 schools you need to go to the school website to see what grade level the teacher you took a job for teaches.
