Pros

Great place to work. Lots of smart people.

Cons

Getting rid of older workers. Investing future of company and it's survival in twenty-somethings.

Pros

The name brand obviously still holds a lot of value. And there are some really smart people in the building who really could save journalism.

Cons

The beast of itself is enormous and as such, moving a beast with many legs, many heads and many brains forward, quickly and down a brand new path is as inelegant and painful as one would imagine. Careers here are measured in decades not years or quarters. A lot of "color inside the lines, sit and wait patiently" being asked of young, ambitious staff.

Started promising, but opportunities are limited.

Pros

It's the Times. Your calls will always get answered. The world takes the brand very seriously.

Cons

Try to branch out and you get iced out. Management sees you as what you were hired as, and good luck trying to move up. There is little hope for internal promotion, and no formal path forward. Ask for more money and you will be treated like a criminal. They like to give you higher-level work and not pay you for it or formally promote you.
