Pros

It's the best, most important newsgathering operation in the world. It will survive after most other newspapers fail. The company is public but governed by the Sulzberger family, who take more pride in the product than they do in the share price.

Cons

It's a newspaper, so margins are thin and it's still in the midst of adapting to the new online world. If you're not a journalist, working in the newsroom can be a little depressing because you're surrounded by lots of passionate people at the top of their craft, while you're shuffling paperwork.

Pros

It's a great brand. You feel like you're keeping something important alive.

Cons

It is a family-run business. Disagree with the leadership at your peril. Very political.
