Not the worst but not great

Pros

Niagara has hires a lot of great people that really care for each other. There are a lot of opportunities to seek out your own professional development and get it reimbursed by the company. Lots of new technology and quick changes across the company allow for new learning opportunities and growth.

Cons

Niagara lacks communication and transparency, which is exceptionally important considering the amount of change and widespread layoffs that have taken place throughout the last few years. Promotion processes and growth opportunities are not consistent across the organization - if you are not in a role that supports top business priorities then you will see very little room for growth. HR at Niagara can be difficult to work with and very clearly are prioritizing company interests over individuals.

Pros

I worked with great team members and cross functional teams who shared the same mindset of achieving the common goals together. It was a good place to learn new skills and new technology in a fast paced environment, but not for long term.

Cons

The work environment felt highly competitive and political, more dog-eat-dog. The Kool Aid was strong. There were team members who moved up fast not entirely on merit or skills. Office politics and favoritism were prevalent. Morale was low with direct manager who encouraged minimal collaboration. Leadership was mostly reactive and could’ve done a better job with project planning. They often shared important details last minute but still expected perfect results. Executive Leadership didn't seem to have the best interest of the team members, spending on unnecessary expenses like sponsoring a non-student athlete, hosting an expensive leadership summit and hiring top artists Snoop Dog and Diplo for an extravagant holiday party, right after a major layoff in HQ. This sent the wrong message like cutting costs wasn’t really the priority, except when it came to cutting team members. If other billion-dollar companies found creative ways to retain the teams members without resorting to layoffs, why couldn’t Executive Leadership at Niagara do the same by leading this "Next 24 Cents" initiative?

Not what I thought

Pros

- opportunity to work with other technical teams more so than I've had in the past - heavy workload and responsibility that prepared me to get a promotion outside the company

Cons

- Rampant Nepotism - Double Standards to the MAX! - hiring the wrong talent and paying them over market. the Solution when they can't do their job, is to spread the work/responsibilities to other TM's (and not increase those manager's comp to take on the other TM's shortcomings). TM = Team member - Gender and workload inequeties within the same team and job leveling across the org (I was HQ based, not as sure on the MFG side) - Toxic team environments or "kool-aide" teams (the teams that are drinking the NIA kool-aide) - micro managing and Clueless leadership - hiring too many very junior people - senior leadership blocking team members from making a job change

Thank you for your hard work while at HQ. At Niagara, we are an equal-opportunity employer. We perform regular performance evaluations and highly encourage our Team Members to apply for internal promotions in order to help everyone achieve their goals. Our priority is to give each of our Team Members the opportunity to grow, develop and advance in their careers fairly. We are disappointed to hear that this was not your experience and will share this feedback to the appropriate teams.
