Not so great

Pros

There’s room for professional development and growth. People from teams across the company are happy to sit down over coffee and discuss what’s going on in the business.

Cons

Sadly, Trunk Club has lost a lot of its appeal. I’m always surprised that people continue to actively apply for a job here. Management is filled with senior managers and directors with absolutely zero people skills, making it a toxic environment to work in, one filled with emotional abuse and little semblance of work life balance.

Pros

Discount Normally solid work life balance

Cons

Promotions and hiring decisions are made based on politics and things not relevant to the candidate's strength or contributions to the org i.e. a manager will push the team hard to hire someone based on their race or sex instead of how they performed in interviews Extreme favoritism throughout the org (e.g. to such an extent where favored people can publicly threaten/berate the non-favored) Politics to the extreme. Technical decisions are not made based on the strength of the argument but who makes it and their political connections. Nordstrom values the leadership tries to push are just a pipe dream. "Nordstrom nice" used to mean something, now it just means smile at the person while you backstab them.

Pros

There are some amazing, talented people that work here.

Cons

A lot of effort goes into telling a god story but the reality is most of the employees that have made Nordstrom what it is today are running out the door fast. The culture of Nordstrom is shifting from being a company that puts it s customers first to being overly profit driven and expense strapped. Too many initiatives but not enough man power to support them. Executive and Director heavy. The inverted pyramid that Nordstrom lives by has no middle layer anymore. There really is no path forward to grow as they now hire from the outside to fill most open positions.
