Surprisingly Dissapointing

Pros

If you work in the fashion industry and live in the PNW, it's one of the few respectable organizations you can work for in the area. The merchandise discount for employees is respectable.

Cons

Unlike the family friendly, positive business image the company portrays, I experienced the following: Constantly shifting structures, staff, and business priorities. Inconsistent processes among teams and varying expectations depending on manager. A pressure cooker of passive aggressive types that creates an atmosphere that fears failure and therefore is afraid to take risks. Favoritism rules the upper management, and affects the success or failure of entire teams. Everyone is out to protect their own skin and fears the wrath of the manager above them. Belittling and abusive managers are allowed to thrive. As expressed best by the mantra of someone who worked there for 15+ years, "our motto to survive at Nordstrom was, die before you cry". Now isn't that inspirational!

Pros

1. Lots of messaging on culture and moving faster 2. Friendly environment and emphasis on work life balance 3. Large technical aspirations

Cons

1. Career development is non-existent, politics is how you get ahead and outcomes aren't valued 2. Lots of free-riders just coasting along collecting nice paychecks for doing nothing every day except getting coffee at the Starbucks 3. Questionable senior leadership with zero modern technology experience 4. Compensation not in line with other area technology companies like Amazon or Microsoft 5. Space is depressing and constantly tight

Pros

- free drinks at the bar - Okay pay - Good place for non experienced workforce members (20-25 years old) - Spend a ton of money on their facilities - Some very, very nice people do work there

Cons

- EXTREMELY HIGH TURNOVER - Lacks in communication from the top down - Acts too much like a Startup company (They were at one point but need to grow up) - Internal systems often do not work - Sorority type atmosphere - Vindictive "Leadership" team - Odd enforcement of "rules" - No write ups or disciplinary action, straight to termination - Company Culture (or lack there of) is weighted too heavily - Not many males in the company - Services cater to people who can afford to be a part of "The Club" - CEO is crazy and thinks very highly of himself - Demands all of your time, Work/life balance is non existent - 50+ hours a week, most of the time more - 24/7 availability to your clients - Ostracized once you don't meet your numbers or question the wrong person - Hard to move up the corporate ladder
