Pros

Nordstrom treats their employees well. No long hours on sales floor, You can make a pretty decent wage depending on the department you work in. Benefits are good.

Cons

Some Department Managers show favortism. It happened in the department I worked in. You are ranked as far as scheduling goes. But if you keep getting the not so good schedule, how are you supposed to move up? If all employees were given the same basic schedule, then everyone would do well as far as selling and commission goes. They need to be more fair with this. Also I don't think department managers should have to sell because this takes sales away from sales people who rely soley on commission.

Pros

Great opportunity for advancement. I had been promoted many times in my almost 10 years there. I loved my coworkers, Nordstrom has a talent for picking great people. I even enjoyed the majority of my managers. Decent pay and benefits (not at top of scale for this line of work, but not bad)

Cons

I loved the job until they started to change their hiring practice. The area of the IT Dept I worked in started to get replaced with overseas contract workers. The quality of work started to suffer. It was very difficult at times to work with people offshore in another time zone. Many times work had to be redone by a veteran employee because the quality of the offshore work was incomplete, late, or poor. I decided to leave after it went from a job I loved to a job I hated.

Pros

Cool/Hip to dress Good money (depending how good of a seller are you) Bistro Nice break room Air Conditioning Celebrities

Cons

Horrofic Managing "Grab by the neck" Selling Working on Commission Used Returns *No return policy* (Come's off your Commission) Co-Worker's jealousy and envy when having a Customer Co-Worker's stealing Customers Personal Trade Rude snobby customers (although that exist's everywhere) If you are working at "The Rail", You have to average atleast $1,300.00 in Sales or 50% above the department average or you are gone like the wind. Every customer who walks in your department KNOWS your job and will feel bad for you eventually. They'll be nice and buy something and return it back. (Comes off your Commisssion). You get a 45 day period review. Basically since your managers are using you to keep their own problems secure they'll toss you in a heartbeat. No one i've ever met actually survived Nordstrom more than 4 months. Things get ugly in this place people. Just giving you a fair warning. Because we are in the "bottom" of the Food Chain.
