Pros

Better than average hourly rate than most retail jobs. Higher end merchandise than many retail jobs bringing in a better class of clientele, generally. Admin. works with me for a flexible schedule. Merchandise discount with higher discounts a few times a year on Nordstrom products.

Cons

Constantly telling us to sign people up for credit cards or rewards accounts, without much incentive. Not having working equipment; telling us to check people out with the mobile unit but most of those don't stay charged. Not getting breaks, but that's apparently a Texas thing. Living in fear of being scheduled for markdowns until 2am or a 5am to 10am shift. I don't think I've ever worked as hard in a retail job as I do at Nordstrom Rack. It is very physically hard and the concrete floors are hard on the body. The store traffic is constant and there's no down time to try to make the store look nice, it always looks like a tornado just hit. Usually there aren't enough people working at any given time to be able to do everything you need to do, but I think that's because the managers are only allowed to have people working in their departments for a certain number of hours a week and that's it.

Doesn't pay enough

Pros

You will get a 20% employee discount. My manager was good and told me my mistakes in a polite and professional manner. They often have food for employees like sandwiches, lemonade, or donuts. Excellent company culture from what I can tell.

Cons

As a seasonal employee, they likely will not let you stay on after unless you have full-time availability. The hourly rate is very low and you will only make decent money if you sell a lot. Selling a lot is hard when you deal with angry customers everyday and people who hate their bodies. Sales takes a lot of luck. My customers said I was very sweet and still didn't always buy. The merchandise selection was poor. People don't like ordering online either despite free shipping and free returns. To set up for the anniversary sale, it's very possible that you will stay until 1 am the night before. HR at the store level does not respond to emails in a timely manner. Had no register training.
