Toxic Workplace

Pros

The students make the experience positive and provide an enriching experience.

Cons

Despite having some staff members who care deeply, the University does not prioritize support for students. It is a toxic place to work and a revolving door for employees. Turnover rate is unacceptably high. Associates talk openly about their disdain for work. Salaries are embarrassingly low. Hours are not manageable. Staff are treated very poorly and reports of workplace harassment are not taken seriously despite the acknowledgement that harassment and toxic cultures are present. There are no values and senior management with the exception of a few good people, misses the mark on how to appropriately management or care for staff. Good people get lost in the shuffle and the "Northeastern glow" which is the refreshment for those who survive and leave the hostile culture is a well-known term.

Pros

1. Exposure to a diverse array of talented professionals. 2. Theoretical potential for professional development in a demanding and sometimes overwhelming, yet dynamic work environment.

Cons

1. Overwhelming administrative disarray and failure to effectively integrate new systems. 2. A noticeable lack of support for remote work, showing inflexibility in adapting to modern work needs. 3. Alarming safety concerns in the local Oakland area, with insufficient institutional measures to ensure employee safety. 4. A glaring deficit in adequately accommodating employees with disabilities, reflecting a lack of true inclusivity.

The benefits don't make up for the culture

Pros

We have 10% contributed towards retirement and decent (but expensive) health insurance. We also have a generous time off policy.

Cons

The president doesn't make a single decision that actually keeps student's best interest in mind. Every office is so understaffed and overworked that the turnover is insane. Upper-level management has no leadership training and there is no support to lower level employees. The salary gap between the average worker and upper-management is disgusting.
