Pros

Hard working, caring people at the staff level.

Cons

Poisonous, ungrateful leadership from the top-down. Ego-driven fiefdoms fighting to take the other down while using staff as pawns. No direction other than making money. Truly a disgraceful waste of a quality institution.

Pros

Great location in Boston, exciting up and coming academic environment, fantastic co-workers, good benefits (as is the case with most higher ed employers)

Cons

Broken senior leadership, administrative turf wars, constant political wrangling, fear, capricious decision-making, poor work life balance, unnecessarily stressful atmosphere that filters down from top to bottom

Inevitable Burnout

Business Outlook

Pros

Hybrid work environment, benefits are solid, and majority of coworkers are very supportive.

Cons

Pay is not appropriate for the workload and professional growth is very limited. Management and high level leaders do not have an understanding of the day-to-day of advisors and the heavy workload (both emotionally and physically) that comes with it. Employer appreciation comes in the form of a free mug instead of deep understanding, listening, and support. Burnout and turnover is simply inevitable with the current systems that are in place, though each college is different.
