Pros
Tuition reimbursement, benefits, but that's it.
Cons
Culture is horrid. Faculty members across the board disrespect staff members left and right, acting like because they have a phd we all need to kiss the ground they walk on. In my year working here, I never once felt appreciated or supported by my department. My position really should have been two separate positions. Pay is abysmal, not competitive at all. I am an alumni of NU, but I am still living paycheck to paycheck as a working professional due to poor compensation and the immense amount of student loans I had to take out (even with scholarships). Upper management does not communicate and sends mixed messages down the chain, resulting in more work and more stress. Favoritism is rampant. Within my college, research staff were supposed to be on campus full-time, but was not extended to any position but mine. My colleagues all had a hybrid schedule and despite asking for this many times, I was denied. Instead, I had to jump through hoops with HR and DRC to get ADA accommodations. This job exacerbated my mental health to the point I was required to take a medical leave of absence and enroll in a mental health program. Wasn't even able to utilize tuition reimbursement as my job left me entirely too exhausted to think about taking on classes in addition to my workload.
