Pros

Flexible hours for systems engineers. The 9/80 work schedule is a great perk. As long as your work is done, you can work any hours that you would like. You can start work as late as 11am if that is your desire. You can start work as early as 5am if that is your desire. Telecommuting options are also avilable. This place offers a good hourly wages for new college graduates. Deadlines are usually very soft. If you cannot finish a task in 10 hours, you can simply tell management that it won't get done and they'll just accept it.

Cons

The work of a systems engineer can be tedious. If you're working in the latter stages of a program, all the design has pretty much been accomplished. Your job is then to just track and trend data. It's not very exciting. Managers, in general, only have acceptable people skills. Engineers tend to lack the ability to inspire and bring out the best qualities on their team. Moral for most programs is just ok and not a lot of people love their jobs here. The science of payload satellites is quite interesting, but the entry level engineer work can be annoying.

Pros

Coworkers all they up to management generally know their stuff, technically speaking. It's a great place to learn from experts in the field. And people are generally friendly and willing to share their knowledge and experience. Also, the flexible work schedule is nice with every other friday off being standard. Northrop Grumman is also known for being the more technologically advanced defense company with many programs on the cutting edge of the fields using the latest designs and hardware. At Redondo Beach, most of the engineering is done in house with many different types of labs and research and development programs.

Cons

Location is in a very expensive area (Redondo Beach, CA) so commuting in LA traffic is an issue. It is a big campus so it is possible to get lost in the numbers. Some of my coworkers have worked hard with little recognition. Also, with all government defense work, having to report time and clock in for a number of hours is a downside. Sometimes tasks take longer and you pretty much work for free on the last day of the pay period.

Pros

Northrop Grumman seems to have been winning all of the major new contracts for the last couple of years.

Cons

Raises do not seem to be heavily performance weighted. However, that is probably related to workforce supply vs demand.
