Pros

Very nice facilities Bonus structure still in place Most areas of the business are still pleasant, rewarding places to work

Cons

Top down command and control management, especially in infrastructure and Operations Very poor outlook for long term employment Promotions and advancement based on nepotism is very common Mixed messages coming from leadership - employees are publicly encouraged to innovate, but in reality, any deviation from leadership's ideas are shot down. Professional/ technical individual contributors and lower management employees are "walking on eggshells" to avoid drawing attention. Threats of termination are common, numerous and followed through on, unless one has a highly placed friend. Work/ life balance gets lip service in some areas, reality is most areas view employees as pawns whose personal time should be spent on company business

Pros

You learn a LOT. Whether you make it in the business or not, you'll leave as a changed person. You learn how to sell, break out of your comfort zone, importance of financial planning, how to manage your own finances, how to call people, how to build your own book of business, small business, etc. Chances are, you will not make it. But if you do...You'll become ridiculously rich. All by doing the right thing and making an impact in peoples lives. You'll find the value once you experience your first claim. You will ONLY become successful if you're HUNGRY and CARE about people. If you don't care, become a stock broker.

Cons

Minimal to no perks...literally. You're a business owner. You want perks? get it yourself.

Pros

Having NM on your resume when seeking new employment. Some employers are still impressed with NM.

Cons

Changing environment has lessened the value the company places on experienced hard working employees. Far too many hoops to jump through that are totally unrelated to the work that needs to be performed. Decreasing health care and retirement benefits over the last decade. It is no longer the family oriented conservative company that valued employee loyalty.
