A good entry level job.

Pros

This is a good company to work for if you want to supplement your income with a part time job. If you're a do-it-yourself mechanic that wrenches on your own vehicles you'll find the discount on parts to be especially attractive. This is an easy career path for a young person with a high school diploma or even an associates degree and an outgoing personality.

Cons

Out of date technology, methods and practices creates too many opportunities for errors on the part of employees. Teamwork and culture must be cultivated rather than forced by policy.

Pros

Good health benefits, stock option plan is fair, 401k is fair if you max out your contribution to it and employee part's discount is better than most. Training is great, but you soon find out that you're probably going to use that training and knowledge somewhere else, for a different part's company when your eyes are open to how depressing this company can be to work for.

Cons

Hard work, long hours, split shifts, breaks are basically non-existent, constant pressure to keep your related sales up (Sales of items such as antifreeze sold with a water pump or radiator) sales goal is constantly rammed down your throat no matter how bad the economy is, as the company doesn't want to hear any excuses as to why sales are down, out of date equipment such as the 80's type Oki Data printers that use the old greenbar paper and ribbon ink, invoices still do not use the bar code system, so all customer returns have to be searched manually, pay is low and not consistent with other parts companies. They praise you on being a team member, family and tell you that commission will help your pay, when in reality it's pennies on the dollar and you can seriously make more by saving the change you find in the store or make from customers giving you a tip. You are on your feel ALL DAY and forget about taking sick leave or vacation, because it is so short staffed, that no one is there to work for you if you need to take a sick day off and the threat of letting you go will be brought to your attention if you need time like that off. You are replaceable, and they have a company wide saying of telling you that if you don't follow their rules and policies, you will be promoted to a customer!

Pros

The paycheck. Free "gym" if you're into that kind of thing. And by gym I mean one room with a few treadmills, bikes, and weight machines.

Cons

Too many to count. If you want to work for a company that pays so low it's a JOKE and people actually talk about and laugh about it as if it's funny to have great workers and pay them next to nothing, this is the job for you. If you like completing lengthy assignments only to be told to re-do them at a manager's whim, this is the place for you. If you don't want ANY personal, vacation, or sick days for your entire first YEAR of work, this is the place for you. Get sick? Too bad. Have a sick kid that needs to go to the doctor? Expect to get fussed out because you took precious company time off to take care of yourself/your family. If you have any kind of life at all outside of work, this is not the company for you. They tell you they are flexible and make the job sound amazing to get you in the door and then you realize how crappy it really is. Low pay, low morale, walking on eggshells, no proper training, no benefits (the "great" healthcare plan is a joke; you pay insane premiums and co-pays and then still owe tons out of pocket), no time off for having a life, and ridiculous expectations, you want to work for O'Reilly!
